Boys Teams Shine
at State Championships
The Branch
Gymnastics Boys Teams traveled to Cadillac to take part in the
Michigan State Championships hosted by Water’s Edge Gymnastics. The
teams had a great weekend of competition bringing home 12 individual
State titles, a 3rd place finish for the Level 4 team,
and 4th place for the Level 5 team.
The Level 4
boys’ solid team performance was capitalized by a number of great
individual performances. Competing in the 6-7 year old age
division, Noah Rosenbaum finished in 2nd place on High
Bar with a 9.5, 3rd place on Floor and Rings with a 9.5
on both events, and 3rd in the All Around with a 56.30.
In the 8-9 year old age division Austin Nemire took the 4th
spot on Vault with a 9.65, 3rd on Rings with a 9.6 and
finished runner up on Floor with a 9.2. Teammate Matthew Leinwand
took 4th place on Floor with a 9.3. Jonathan Murphy came
up with two gold medals on Parallel Bars and High Bar scoring a 9.4
and a 9.5 respectively.

for the Level 5 team was Tra Bryant turning in gold medal
performances on Floor (8.8), Rings (9.0), Vault (9.7), and Parallel
Bars (9.5). Tra also finished 2nd on Pommel Horse with
an 8.7 and High Bar with an 8.9 on his way to claiming the All
Around title with a score of 54.60. Austin Buck finished in 8th
place on Pommel Horse with an 8.3 and teammate Kevin Greenman
finished in the 6th spot on Vault with a 9.3. Pieter
Hofstra took home a 5th place finish on Floor with an 8.8
and Brent Person turned in a 9.2 on Parallel Bars that earned him 4th
place.
For the Level 9
and 10 boys this was the first step for them in qualifying to the
National Championships. At the State Championships the boys have to
attain a certain score to qualify to the Regional Championships.
The boys handled the extra pressure with ease and came up with some
outstanding performances. Daniel Lucas and Tyler Scharns, competing
in the Level 9 division, came up big finishing 1st and 3rd
in the All Around. To go along with his All Around title Daniel
claimed the State title on Vault (8.6), Parallel Bars (9.0), and
High Bar (9.2). Tyler Scharns finished 3rd on Rings
(7.9) and Vault (8.0) along with his 3rd place in the All
Around with a 48.50. Tyler also claimed the gold medal on Pommel
Horse with a 7.9. Level 10, Kyler Sill took home a 5th
place finish on Floor with an 8.2 and finished 10th in
the All Around with a 40.75.
