Branch Gymnastics Hosts the Branch Winter Co-Ed Classic
The Branch Gymnastics
competitive team opened their season with a bang. The boys and
girls teams had a tremendous amount of success while performing in
front of the home crowd filled with friends and family.
“The first meet of the year
can sometimes be a difficult one,” says Head Team coach Al Scharns,
“getting back into the frame of mind for competition can take some
time after a summer of training.” The boys and girls teams proved
they were ready for the challenge, turning in strong performances at
every level.
The Level 4 Boys claimed the top four places in the All Around (6-8 year old age
division). Hamilton Highhouse finished in 1st place with
a score of 55.80, followed by Austin Nemire in 2nd place
(55.70), Noah Rosenbaum in 3rd place (55.10), and Zachary
Robinson in 4th place (53.15). Nicholas Heikkila took
top honors in the All Around (9 and up age division) with a 55.10.
Jonathan Murphy turned in a solid High Bar routine landing him in
first place with a 9.5, while Matthew Leinwand Vaulted his way to a
first place finish with a 9.8.
Tra Bryant turned in a
strong performance for the Level 5 boys finishing in the top spot on
Floor (9.2) and Vault (9.8). Teammate Brent Pearson finished in 1st
place on Parallel Bars with an 8.9. Austin Buck added a great
Vault finishing in 2nd place with a 9.5.
Daniel Lucas and Tyler
Scharns (Level 9, 12-13 year old age division) finished one, two in
the All Around with a 49.30 and a 47.70 respectively. Daniel also
finished 1st on Floor with a 9.3, while Tyler finished 2nd
on Vault with a 9.0. Kyler Sill took 1st place in the
All Around (44.65) and on Floor (8.5) in the Level 9, 14 and up age
division.
The Level 5 girls’ team
turned in many powerful individual performances. Shelby Woodmansee
captured the gold medal on Bars with a 9.2. Teagan Young tumbled
her way to a 3rd place finish on Floor with a 9.3, and
Morgan VanWinkle finished in the 4th spot on Bars (9.1)
and Beam (9.05). Kimberly Barber had an excellent Vault earning her 2nd
place with an 8.8. Accalia McFellin turned in a glowing performance
on every event earning her a 4th place finish in the All
Around with a 35.10.
The Level 6 girls’ team came
away with a number of top finishes. Hailey Hammerberg performed
well enough for a 2nd place finish on Vault (8.8), Bars
(8.35), and All Around (33.925). Teammate Arielle Devenport took
the 2nd place position on Floor with an 8.85. Erika
Whitehead finished out the day with a big Vault that landed her in 1st
place with a score of 9.0.
In the Level 7, 7-11 year
old age division Marianne Douglas had an outstanding day taking top
honors in the All Around (36.425), Vault (9.1), and Bars (9.275).
Emily Freybler was focused on Beam and Floor taking the top spot with
a 9.4 on both events. Julia Meeker finished in 2nd place
on Vault an 8.725. In the 12-14 year old age division it was Anna
Lucas who claimed 1st place in the All Around with a
36.675. Anna also finished 1st on Bars with a 9.35.
Kennadie Gensch led the way on Beam and Floor taking top honors with
a 9.325 and a 9.4 respectively. Other team members turning in
exemplary
performances were Jennifer Shields finishing 3rd on Beam
(9.05), Nancy Ford finishing 3rd on Floor (9.275), and
Maija Paldan finishing 4th on Bars (9.175).
The Level 8 girls’ team
dominated the field taking the top 4 places in the All Around.
Julia Fiore finished in 1st place on Vault (8.925), Beam
(9.35), and All Around (36.675). Julia tied with teammate Kayla
DePierre for 1st place on Floor with a score of 9.45.
Kayla also finished in 1st place on Bars with a 9.55,
followed closely by Manami Goto in 2nd place with a 9.4.
Megan Ellefson was steady on Beam earning her a 2nd place
finish with a 9.1. Competing in the 12-13 year old age division
Kaylie Hess took top honors on Bars (9.1), Floor (9.1), and in the
All Around with a 34.95.
The Prep Optional team displayed skill in winning the All Around in two of
the three divisions. In the Bronze division, Abby Einhardt took 1st
place on Beam (9.1), Floor (9.175), and All Around (34.275). Ashley
Elliston finished in the top spot on Bars with a 9.1, while Kismet
Gray took 1st on Vault with an 8.7. Caroline Bissonnette
finished in 2nd place in the All Around with a 34.225.
In the Silver division, it was Natalie Briggs on top of the awards
stand on Vault (8.575), Bars (9.2), and All Around (35.475). Hannah
Smith was steady on Beam finishing in the top spot with a 9.2, and
Cheyenne Katz finished in 1st place on Floor with a
9.05. In the Gold division, Carli Murav took home the gold medal on
Floor with a 9.1
